High precision steam humidification equipment from the sector specialist, Trion, is keeping production machinery running at peak efficiency for Leicester-based company, Artisan Press - one of the largest privately owned printers in the Midlands.

Two MD series steam humidification systems from Trion's popular Herrtronic range have been installed to serve an area housing two of Artisan's laser digital plate processing machines. This equipment is designed to operate within an rh range of 50-55% to ensure optimum performance efficiency.

"The plate making machines are key to the smooth-running of our digital printing operations" explains Mick Saunders, Artisan's Production Engineer. "Any quality problems with the film and plate production ultimately add up to lost revenue for the company. So creating the right humidity conditions all year round in this area quickly became a priority for the business and the Trion solution is giving us just the stability that we needed".

Ideal for this type of close control application, Trion's MD series is an advanced, microprocessor controlled, steam humidification system designed to operate on raw or softened water supplies. At Artisan Press two wall mounted MD packaged units are located at either end of the room, each equipped with a steam distribution blower and nozzle assembly to provide a capacity of up to 36.3kgs/hr each. Both Trion units feature intelligent, highly accurate PI control linked to humidity sensors in the space to provide automatic activation of the system precisely when rh levels demand. Access and adjustment of the system's setpoints can be carried out using the intuitive LCD display panel on each unit, if required, which also features monitoring and alarm facilities.

The Trion system at Artisan Press was successfully installed and commissioned by Midlands-based contractors, Midtherm Ltd.
