LOCK, STOCK AND NO SMOKING BARREL! SHEPHERD NEAME CHOOSES TRION AIR CLEANERS FOR FRINTON'S FIRST EVER PUB

Shepherd Neame's The Lock & Barrel - the first ever pub to open in the attractive, seaside town of Frinton-on-Sea - has chosen electrostatic air cleaners from Trion to preserve a clean, smoke-free atmosphere inside the pub that both patrons and staff can enjoy.

Opened amidst a blaze of national publicity this September, The Lock & Barrel is situated on Connaught Avenue in Frinton-on-Sea - one of the most unusual towns in Britain where half the 5,000 population is over the age of 65. As part of its major investment in building the pub and creating the most comfortable environment possible for its customers, brewer Shepherd Neame specified an integrated air conditioning and ventilation system, featuring two Trion 120 Series electrostatic air cleaners. The system was designed and installed by Kent-based refrigeration and air conditioning contractor, Articair.

"To keep noise pollution to the outside at a minimum, The Lock & Barrel doesn't have any opening windows" explains Kristian de Pledge of Articair. "So, it was important that our system was capable of bringing in sufficient quantities of fresh air as well as being able to remove any contaminants, like tobacco smoke, before things became stuffy and unpleasant inside the pub. The Lock & Barrel also serves food and it was felt that a clean environment would be more hygienic, and encourage more people to stay and eat in the pub."

With no available wall space for air cleaner installation, Articair's only alternative was to consider ceiling mounted units. Trion's 120 Series units proved ideal for the job, providing a discreet, ceiling recessed solution for the pub. With their ultra-slim profile of just 242mm, these smart-looking air cleaners fit neatly within a metal-framed false ceiling. This ensures a clean, attractive appearance, without intruding into the headroom space of the bar or food servery areas.

Each unit is large enough in capacity to provide efficient air cleaning performance, removing smoke at an air volume rate up to 1680m3/hr. The 120 unit also has innovative arc suppression circuitry as a standard feature, to minimise "cracking".
"When it comes to air cleaners, the versatility of its range makes Trion our natural choice" adds Kristian de Pledge. "No matter how challenging the application, we're confident that, as at The Lock & Barrel, there's a Trion unit that will fit the space available, look the business and do the job of smoke removal very efficiently as well."

Trion has over 50 years experience at the forefront of air cleaning technology and provides the hospitality sector with the widest range of multi-fix electrostatic air cleaners on the market. These include the 60 and 120 Series units, the AL, G, and FL range of ultra-modern wall and ceiling mounted air cleaners together with the established Space Saver, Profile, Supreme and Max V units.

Trion has vigorously supported the AIR Campaign since its inception, as well as the test procedures carried out by BSRIA to verify noise levels, air volumes and cleaning efficiency of air cleaners as part of the Public Places Charter (PPC). All Trion products are being tested under this initiative and the results will be published in due course. Trion is part of the Fedders Engineered Product Group.
