TRION CARTRIDGE FILTERS ARE
BMW'S ULTIMATE CLEANING MACHINES

Global automotive manufacturer BMW has specified air cleaners from Trion's recently launched CM Series of cartridge filters to serve welding areas in its newly opened training centre at Dingolfing, Germany.

This new state-of-the-art BMW facility, part of the huge Dingolfing manufacturing complex, is designed to provide a purpose-built arena for employees to learn, improve and test their welding techniques for car body panel manufacture. The centre includes a total of 36 welding booths complete with mig-welding sets and angle grinders. BMW has chosen air cleaners from Trion, the specialist in industrial fume and dust control, to eliminate the potential health and safety risks associated with the inhalation of welding fumes and grinding dust generated during these operations.

Four Trion CM8 cartridge filter units have been installed in the Dingolfing training centre. These are connected via ductwork to Trion EPH flexible fume extraction arms located in each booth to collect the resulting fume and dust. Each CM8 unit is designed to handle an air volume of 9000 m3/hr, with air movement provided by a single fan. This fan is fitted with a speed control which incorporates a special flow and measurement system designed to vary the overall air volume between 12,000 and 36,000 m3/hr, depending on the number of booths in operation.

While an internal baffle directs larger particles from the welding booths immediately into each unit's respective collection hopper, the remaining contaminated air is drawn through the filter cartridges and collected on its polyester needlefelt media. Clean air is exhausted through an outlet at the top of each air cleaner.

This is the second Trion air cleaning system installed at BMW Dingolfing in recent months. Four CM8 cartridge filters have already been supplied to collect grinding and polishing dust in the final body finish area of the factory.

In addition to welding and grinding applications, Trion's CM Series provide a cost-effective solution for a variety of fixed dust collection operations, including laser cutting, food processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and heavy powder applications. There are four standard sizes in the CM filter series, all designed to operate at over 99% efficiency down to particle sizes of 0.5 microns. Manufactured in welded sheet steel, each CM unit is self-cleaning and supplied on a stand with its own collection hopper and dust barrel. These can be easily detached for simple removal and emptying.
